Joining ANZAOP

You can join the Academy as an Associate Member.

The induction process for new members has traditionally been by invitation extended from an Academy member for the new candidate to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting. Often they are well known to the Academy member as having a strong interest in the field of Orofacial Pain/ TMD, have been invited as a guest speaker, or have attended meetings as a guest of an Academy member.

New candidates for membership are required to send a recent Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the ANZAOP Executive Committee President, or Secretary/Treasurer at least two months before the Annual General Meeting (AGM). A Full Member of the Academy should write a letter of recommendation to be included with the application. The candidate's name, Curriculum Vitae and Full Members letter of recommendation will be tabled to the Academy Members at the AGM which is usually held immediately following the Scientific meeting's program, and is a boardroom style business-dinner which all members are expected to attend. Please note that this portion of the Annual Meeting is restricted to Academy members only, and is not open for candidates for membership.

Please note that your CV should demonstrate a strong clinical interest, and sustained participation in postgraduate courses/graduate programs related to TMD, Orofacial Pain or related medical/health science fields. To have merely attended one orofacial pain/TMD meeting would be deemed insufficient.

If the application for membership is acceptable to the Academy, the candidate is nominated to the status of  'Associate Member' for a period of 2 years.

The associate members of the Academy shall have the following requirements:

  1. During the two years it is expected that the new Associate member will give by agreement with the Scientific program committee, a presentation of a research project or relevant clinical item to the ANZAOP Annual General Scientific Meeting. If the 'Associate' member fullfills these criteria, then they are then nominated at the AGM for 'Full' membership status.
  2. They shall regularly attend the meetings of the Academy in order to maintain associate membership in the Academy. ANZAOP members are expected to miss no more than 2 consecutive Annual meetings without compelling cause and any inability to attend is expected to be forwarded to the committee prior to the General meeting.
  3. They shall be willing to work within the Academy objectives (guidelines) to promote the best interest of the Academy
